Chubako brand and our women-weavers, aim to bring innovation through indigenous practices by becoming Sikkim’s first wool-based handloom cluster. Recipients of the knowledge of the indigenous wool-making process, our weavers engage in a practice that has been passed down for generations.
Banpala Sheep
The Banpala Sheep, which literally means ‘reared in the forest’, are bred by the Gurungs, a traditional shepherding community found in West Sikkim. The Tibetan sheep found in North Sikkim are reared mainly by the Drokpas, a transhumant group, residing in the Tso Lhamo cold desert region of Lachen.

Chubako is a women-majority project aimed at engaging, empowering, and enabling women of Chuba. Chubako brand and our women-weavers, aim to bring innovation through indigenous practices by becoming Sikkim’s first wool-based handloom cluster.
Hand Crafted
Our weavers, who belong to the Gurung community have been making their own handmade products which is an important part of their rich cultural heritage and identity, and that of the vibrant Sikkim as a state.
